Banks
- Dark
- Striking
- Feminine
I wanted to re-design the Banks album, Goddess. I have always enjoyed her music and this was one of my favourite albums for quite sometime. There’s something about Jillian Banks’ music that has a dark essence yet a striking feminine energy
that I love and wanted to show that through my design.
Some people believe that gods and goddess’ are regular people that need to pass over and be reincarnated to gain their powers.
I was reminded of the process of caterpillars journey to becoming a butterfly and how they endure the less appealing version of their life as a caterpillar they eventually become a beautiful insect.
I used fluid painting to create two different artworks with similar processes. I created the cover by pouring a mix of different paints on a canvas and tilting it until I had my desired bleed and pattern. Similarly, with creating the butterfly I used fluid paints and a ball chain. After placing the paint in the desired shape, I dragged the chain over the paints to blend them creating a butterfly.
The inside of the cover resembles a symmetry painting - paint one side, fold it in half and they are identical. This is method is often used to make paintings of butterflies.
